(Oct. 27, 2011 ) Last weekend during Nantucket’s inaugural Birding Festival, participants spotted several very rare species, making the festival a “raging success,” according to Vern Laux, a resident naturalist at the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, which hosted the event.

(Oct. 27, 2011 ) Red Ribbon Week, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country, started Monday in communities across America, including Nantucket. It marked the community’s commitment to a drug-free environment for island children.

(Oct. 27, 2011 ) Theatre Workshop of Nantucket and the Nantucket Atheneum are gearing up for their second annual Staged Reading Series, set to kick off Friday, October 28 in the Atheneum’s Great Hall with Christopher Durang’s comedy “Beyond Therapy.”

(Oct. 27, 2011 ) Nantucket Memorial Airport manager Al Peterson, the most highly-compensated town employee and perhaps the most controversial, was fired Tuesday by the Airport Commission after months of acrimony at the island transportation hub.
