Move underway to keep Pleasant Street post office open

(Sept. 29, 2011 ) A bid to avert the closing of the Pleasant Street post office is coalescing on Nantucket, with town leaders and citizens preparing to make their case to the beleaguered federal agency that is planning to shutter as many as 3,700 facilities across the country.

Mother arraigned on second-degree murder charges in death of child

(Sept. 27, 2011) Dora Tejada, the Nantucket mother accused of killing her 3-year-old daughter in March, was arraigned in Nantucket Superior Court Monday on a charge of second-degree murder. The arraignment came after Tejada, 26, was indicted by a Nantucket County grand jury earlier this month.

Town commends SSA for help with Miss China removal

(Sept. 26, 2011 ) Town officials presented awards of thanks to Greg Gifford, Steamship Authority port captain for Nantucket, and H. Flint Ranney, the island's representative on the SSA board of governors, for their assistance in helping with the removal of the derelict fishing dragger Miss China after it grounded on Brant Point in December 2010, during the SSA's monthly meeting on Nantucket.

Beatlemania to benefit Food Pantry

(Sept. 26, 2011 ) The cast of the Broadway show “Beatlemania” will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Nantucket High School to benefit the Nantucket Emergency Food Pantry.
