The University of Massachusetts has committed up to $2 million to upgrade and improve the Nantucket Field Station and establish a college-level “Institute” there in an effort to maximize the educational potential of the property owned by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and help make it a nationally-known science and research facility.

After 12 turbulent years as Nantucket County Sheriff, Richard Bretschneider concedes some mistakes over his two terms in office, but is running for reelection based on his two decades of law enforcement experience on the island, and his commitment of deeds excise taxes to the new police station and other projects.
